City of Darwin is redeveloping the Casuarina Pool into the $25m Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre, which will provide a modern, family-friendly facility for the community to enjoy.

The new Nightcliff Police Station is a statement building demonstrating its presence to serve and protect the local community and forms a crucial part of the redevelopment of the wider John Stokes Redevelopment Precinct.

On Wednesday 1st November, we had the pleasure of welcoming NAWIC members on site to tour the CDU Education and Community Precinct.
The tour was led by Developments General Manager, Drew Miller and Project Manager, Jay McNeice. The team provided insights into the construction and innovations incorporated into this exciting project, addressing multiple questions from the group throughout the tour.
The tour provided a great opportunity to showcase the progress we’ve made and the unique features that distinguish this project. We are proud to have many women involved in this project, and we look forward to more collaborations with NAWIC in the future!
The Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre project site is abuzz with activity as the installation of shade structures continues to go well.
DCOH formerly known as Halikos have now received its last shipment of support beams.
Each of these support beams carries a substantial weight of 5,500kg, which is equivalent to that of three cars!
The purpose of these structures is to provide respite from the intense sun and ensure protection by effectively shading around 70% of the eight-lane 50-meter pool and the six-lane 25-meter pool.
DCOH takes great pride in overseeing the completion of this project on behalf of the City of Darwin
Charles Darwin University (CDU) Allen Glo and Kevin Gondaliya are mastering their engineering skills while interning at the CDU Education and Community Precinct Project.
Allen, in his final year, gains hands-on experience, applying his civil and structural engineering knowledge. Kevin, specialising in mechanical engineering, expands his skill set daily.
“This has been an invaluable hands-on experience. What I have learnt about structural integrity and materials science is being applied to a real-world project, right here in Darwin. I’m very grateful that God has blessed me with organisations like DCOH and CDU to help kickstart my career.” Mr Glo said.
Their involvement broadens horizons, with Allen now interested in project management and construction. Construction is progressing rapidly on site, with doors set to open for semester two next year!
Master Builders NT – Women in Construction & Co Forum held on October 30, 2023. This event brought together and celebrated the achievements, potential opportunities, and diversity of women in the NT construction industry.
The event was flawlessly organised, with a fantastic lineup of speakers, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. The topics covered were not only relevant but also addressed critical issues facing women in the construction sector.
A standout feature of the forum was the diverse range of speakers and panellists. It was refreshing to see women from various backgrounds, experiences, and roles within the construction industry come together to share their knowledge and experiences. These women were Business owners, Engineers, Project Managers, and so much more, and their stories were both inspiring and motivating.
The keynote presentations were exceptional, with Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia offering valuable insights into economic statistics, NT’s investment opportunities and support for women nationally and at a local level within the construction industry. Danita supported women holding leadership roles within a male dominated industry and the importance of diversity and inclusion in the construction field. The interactive panel discussions facilitated open and honest conversations.
The networking opportunities were equally impressive and provided the chance to connect with women who shared similar experiences and challenges, and it was heartening to see such a strong sense of community and support among the attendees.
The event was not just about professional development; it was also about fostering connections and building relationships.

The Northern Territory Government is constructing a new purpose-built Darwin Youth Justice Centre on a greenfield site at 498 Taylor Road, Holtze. The site is located close to police, emergency services and health services.
The new Darwin Youth Justice Centre strikes a balance between ensuring facilities are secure, safe, robust and durable, while meeting the therapeutic and rehabilitative needs of young people sentenced to detention or on remand.
The structures and landscaping of the Darwin Youth Justice Centre site will occupy four hectares on a densely vegetated 14.5-hectare site. The Northern Territory Government has awarded DCOH, formerly known as Halikos, the $55.1 million construction tender for the development of the new centre. Construction is expected to commence in late July 2020 and be completed in mid-2022.
Development of the Darwin Youth Justice Centre is expected to create around 350 local jobs across the duration of the project, which will be in addition to the ongoing jobs to manage and operate the centre.

Construction of Carpentaria Disability Services, Stage 2 of the Harry’s Place precinct has now been completed and was handed over Friday 29th May.
The project delivered a range of community, allied health, education, training and direct care services and incorporates a fully operational Administration Building.
Carpentaria Stage 2 will provide people with disabilities that are leaving school a pathway to further education and gives them an opportunity to develop essential skills to survive in everyday life. Currently there are no other service programs or buildings in Darwin that cater for this group of young people with disabilities.
“We are pleased to report the project ticked along very smoothly with no major disruptions or issues arising. We have received very positive feedback on our works and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Carpentaria Disability Services” said Regan Andersom, General Manager DCOH formerly known as Halikos.
