The Darwin International Tennis Centre complex was a fully designed and documented project consisting of world-class exhibition playing courts, a clubhouse and administration facilities for both tennis and soccer. The clubhouse and administration areas are located within a two-story structure with a total built area of approximately 2400m2.
Project features:
- International Tennis Federation (ITF) compliant courts
- 500 fixed seats at the main court (an extra 3500 seats can be brought in)
- A prominent showpiece tennis court with lighting that meets ITF standards
- 2 complex tensile roof structures to the multipurpose and showpiece court
- Office accommodation for the Tennis NT and Football Federation NT
- Six hot shot courts for younger participants
- Function areas and amenities
- A new clubhouse
- 120 carparks
- Canteen
- Kitchen
Very specific design requirements of the asphalt and tennis court surface complete the physical footprint of the tennis courts, that had to be constructed strictly in compliance with tennis code-specific requirements.
Multiple finishes to pavements, retaining walls, fixed seating tiers (to the show court), concrete paths incorporating various concrete finishes around the clubhouse and tennis courts further enhance the project and added levels of complexity to the construction.
523 local jobs were created during the construction phase.
